The High Fantasy Backlist

This post is part of the Backlist Bloghop and comments count toward the drawing for prizes I’ve discussed in more detail elsewhere. Visit all the participating blogs for a wealth of great books and prizes.

As a longtime member of the science fiction and fantasy community, I know a backlist of fantasy books is virtually immortal. Think about it. Full-fledged fantasy worlds have separate timelines, so they never get dated in the way of contemporary books. Writing style can get outdated and so can character types or underlying social issues, but the worlds are forever new to new readers.

One of the great things about fantasy is how multi-faceted the genre is. In most fantasy worlds, humans aren’t alone. They share the world with other races of intelligent beings and with creatures natural or supernatural that present all manner of opportunities and threats to human lives and ways. There’s often an element of magic or otherworldly science. Exploring how these elements interact and clash is pure, unadulterated fun.

I have two backlist fantasies with Dreamspinner that aren't part of my Uttor world. Being the diehard romantic that I am, both books feature amazing worlds, love stories at the core, and the characters who enjoy on page sex.

Sorcerer’s Knot is a dark, gritty book in which an ambitious young magic user seeks—and finds—and island hidden by a desperate sorcerer. Once on the island he discovers nothing is quite what it seems. There’s a tentacle creature in the book and rape—though not by the hero—so consider yourself warned.

The Prince of Winds is an enemies to lovers book that takes place on a world being conquered by three demon brothers who are also killing off its gods. When a young human warrior is injured in battle, he is rescued by one of the demon princes and finds himself losing his heart.

My next release with Dreamspinner, in July/August, will be another fantasy book called Thick as Thieves. This one's a sword and sorcery romp with a horny barbarian, a pretty male witch, and a whole lot of surprises.

Another writer asked this first, but I love the question so I’m borrowing it: Which of my book covers (see sidebar) do you like best?

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I'm torn between Dangerous Beauty and Prince of Winds. The first is just beautiful, but I *love* the emotion captured on the cover of Prince of Winds.
